Our Mission

The DeFeo Family Farm is focused on improving the health of our community by serving as a trusted steward of the land, providing access to local food products, and offering education on ways to creatively embrace a wide variety of nutritious foods as part of a balanced lifestyle.

To accomplish this mission, we are cultivating a biodiverse farm that supports our local food supply, inspires curiosity in nature, and uses farming practices that minimize negative environmental impacts.

We also collaborate with community partners in order to share our harvest and support individuals as they adopt healthy lifestyle changes.

Veggie Share (CSA) Subscription

We want to be your farmers!

Our Veggie Share Program (otherwise known as a Community-Support Agriculture - CSA) subscription enables you to reach your creative and healthy cooking goals and helps support our broader mission in the community. Each week (or bi-week) you will receive a share of veggies from the farm and will have the option to fully customize your share and/or add-on products. We also offer additional vegetables, as well as specialty items like fruit and gourmet mushrooms, from other local producers.

If you don’t know if you can commit to a Veggie Share subscription, you can also choose to purchase store credit to use for individual purchases throughout the whole year. With your support, our farm community can grow, thrive and transform the way we eat and live!

Our Farm

Our small farm is in Middletown, Maryland - conveniently located less than a mile from I-70. What was once a “garden” has rapidly expanded and includes multiple production fields, as well as a high-tunnel for over-wintering greens. We also keep a small flock of heritage chickens.

Ultimately our hope is to build ecological havens on the farm to support biodiversity and to showcase the natural beauty of the local ecosystem for our visitors.

While we are not currently organically certified, we grow our food following the same high standards that apply to organically certified growers.

We do not use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides on our production fields. Moreover, we are fostering a balanced ecosystem to support the growth of robust and nutritious plants.

Our Projects

In 2023 we first partnered with our local health care system, Frederick Health, for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) pilot project in support of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).  To support DPP participants in making healthy lifestyle changes, Frederick Health purchased weekly produce boxes that were provided at no cost to a pilot group of participants throughout the growing season. During the project, we delivered packages of fresh produce, along with recipes and healthy eating resources, to DPP participants and confirmed that ready access to fresh produce and education on healthy recipes was impactful for participants in working toward their healthy lifestyle goals.

We have continued this partnership for the past 3 seasons and expanded to include other ambulatory care programs.

community collaborations

In 2023, Pastor Fossett at Hopehill United Methodist Church reached out to the Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County for assistance with making his vision for a health fair for his congregation a reality! With support from Frederick Health, DeFeo Family Farm took part in the Hopehill UMC Health Fair by providing 200 lbs of fresh produce for attendees, along with healthy recipes.

In 2025, we brought 200 lbs of fresh produce to the Urbana Volunteer Fire & Rescue Public Safety Day.

We also sell wholesale to Frederick Farm to School in support of their Veggie Van initiative, which brings fresh produce from local farms at reduced prices to communities across Frederick County.
