What is a CSA?

A traditional CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture program) enables customers and farmers to share in the process of growing local, small-scale produce. Customers pay in advance, allowing the farmer to better plan how much of each crop to grow and to cover the costs of seeds, labor and supplies needed for production throughout the season. In return, farmers provide a portion of the farm's produce regularly throughout the growing season. Members share in both the bounty and risks across the growing season. At its core, a CSA membership is a way to build community around food and helps farmers to bootstrap a successful growing season for customers.

We are hoping to build a CSA community among our neighbors, community partners, colleagues, and friends in order to come together through a shared appreciation of local organic food, home cooking, and each other.

Each Wednesday CSA Members will receive a bag of fresh organic produce grown on our farm and on other local organic farms.

Benefits:

  • On Farm Flex Pick-up: CSA members who elect to pick-up on our farm will have more options for on-farm pick-up days.

  • Variety & Quality: Our farm grows over 40 different types of vegetables and herbs, and many different varieties of each.

  • Membership Flexibility: CSA Members can choose between four different-sized shares and whether you would like a bi-weekly or weekly membership.

  • Store Credit: We also offer a store credit CSA membership that enables you to pre-pay for purchases made in 2025

  • Preferences: Weekly shares can be crafted to Member preferences using automatic customization offered by our CSA management software, GrownBy, to match your preferences with our inventory.

  • Customization: Members have the opportunity to make changes to their shares and to add-on to shares each week by selecting from available inventory in our store.

  • Vacation Scheduling: Members are able to put the CSA on hold for up to three vacation weeks.

  • Payment Options: While paying the total cost for the CSA up-front helps the farm, we can also accommodate monthly payment installments over the course of the season.

  • Communication: Members receive weekly emails including farm updates, as well as tips & tricks for enjoying seasonal produce.

  • Mission Support: CSA Memberships help support the larger mission of the farm, which is to improve the health of our community through our partnerships that provide healthy food to patients at local healthcare organizations and that offer on-farm learning experiences for high school and college students, as well as volunteers.

  • Refunds: We are passionate about offering the best CSA experience possible, but if you are dissatisfied, we’ll issue a refund on your remaining shares.

What is a Defeo Family Farm CSA?

How does it work?

Choose your CSA preference at our online store hosted by GrownBy. We currently offer different sized fully customizable options (see below).

Each week you will be sent an email to view your weekly share based upon your preferences. You have the choice to further customize your share based on our online store inventory, or you can choose to do nothing and receive your suggested share for the week.

All orders will be ready for pick-up at the farm or at your registered drop-off location. Your order will be delivered using reusable totes that are to be returned each week. At the end of the season, you can keep your final tote delivery bag.

Depending on the size of your CSA membership, you are eligible for up to 3 vacation weeks. Simply claim your vacation week(s) prior to the order cut-off, and you are able to pass on receiving the CSA package for that week. Note: If you need to use more than the allotted vacation weeks, then you can either have a friend or neighbor pick up your share, or it can be donated on your behalf.

If you are interested in volunteering to offset the cost of your CSA, please email us.

How does your CSA store credit work?

How long does the CSA Season last?

We offer store credit for those customers that might not be able to pick-up during the main season as consistently as necessary to join the full CSA, especially during the summer. Store credit can also be used any week of the year, not just in the CSA season. The main difference is that you won’t have an automatic share created for you each week, but rather you are responsible for choosing from the inventory that is available. Customers choosing this option will be included on all weekly emails and are also entitled to all discounts. You will always have the option to opt-in and -out of the automated program at any time. If you purchase store credit prior to Feb 28th you will be credited 5% back. Store credit will not carry over into 2026.

The 2025 CSA will begin on May 14th and end November 24th.

What membership options are available?

You can choose between a weekly and bi-weekly schedule, and four different pricing options. Please be sure to read our full CSA Membership Agreement and Policies as you consider your CSA purchase.

All 2025 CSA prices are below. Returning members will receive a 5% discount, and are eligible for $25 credit for every new CSA member they recruit. All past CSA members will receive a coupon code by email. You must use this code to receive the returning member discount. If you pay in full by Feb 28 (National CSA Day) you will receive another 5% discount. If a CSA member chooses to volunteer then they can earn credit off their CSA purchase.
